The Tampa Museum of Art – a lovely museum, set in downtown Tampa. Small enough to see the exhibits in one walk-through, which is less tiring than trying to see a huge museum in one visit. The main exhibit on display until April 30 is titled, “Who Shot Sports?” The exhibit features a history of sports photography through the years, beginning in 1843, when photographers could only capture still photographs, through the present. The exhibit features over 200 photographs and according to the literature, is “the most comprehensive survey of the art of sports photography ever produced, highlighting the aesthetic, cultural, and historical significance of these images and artists in the history of sports.”
It is highly recommended if you are in the area. You will recognize photos that have appeared over the years in magazines and newsprint, as well as photos by famous photographers such as Richard Avedon. And many photos that will simply amaze .
