architecture extraordinaire

“Out of the ground and into the light, a Child of the Sun.” This was the inspirational vision behind Frank Lloyd Wright’s designs for the buildings at Florida Southern University in 1938. The world’s largest collection of Frank Lloyd Wright buildings is a mere 45 minute drive or so from where we are camped. When my friend Darcy visited, we discovered Lakeland and found the Wright buildings, but it was evening and we were short on time. I went back there yesterday with Bob and we toured the campus and buildings. Quite interesting and inspirational. And what a cool campus – I could imagine walking that campus each day as a student. Unfortunately, for all the amazing sights, I did not get the greatest photos, but here are a few.

A stroll through the campus rose garden ensures you will see a beautiful bloom in February – always a welcome sight to visitors from the north!
